Jon G. Allen

Jon G. Allen PhD. Professor of Psychiatry in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Baylor College of Medicine, where he holds the Helen Malsin Palley Chair. He is also Senior Staff Psychologist
at the Menninger Clinic, Houston TX. His distinguished career includes conducting psychotherapy, diagnostic consultations, and  psycho educational programs, specializing in trauma-related disorders and depression.

He conducts research on treatment evaluation and clinical outcomes, presents both national and international. He is the author of several books: Coping with Trauma: Hope through Understanding; Coping with Depression: From Catch-22 to Hope; and Traumatic Relationships and Serious Mental Disorders. .

He coauthored many books including Restoring Hope and Trust: An Illustrated Guide to Mastering Trauma (with Lisa Lewis and Kay Kelly); Borderline Personality Disorder: Tailoring the Therapy to the Patient (with Leonard Horwitz, Glen Gabbard and colleagues); and Mentalizing in Clinical Practice (with Peter Fonagy and Anthony Bateman).

Jon Allen is the coeditor of Diagnosis and Treatment of Dissociative Disorders (with William Smith) and The Handbook of Mentalization-Based Treatment (with Peter Fonagy and Anthony Bateman). He has also written numerous professional articles and book chapters on trauma-related problems,depression, psychotherapy, hospital treatment, the therapeutic alliance, psychological testing,neuropsychology, and emotion.

He is also a jazzpianist and composer
